Test Accommodations

About Test Accommodations
The core of my practice is helping middle and high school students and their families obtain needed testing accommodations for their high school entrance (SSAT, ISEE, HSPT) or college entrance (SAT, ACT) exams. (
I also assist adults in securing accommodations for graduate and professional exams.) These accommodations can include extended time (50% or 100% extra time); small or individual test settings; the use of a reader, computer, or calculator; multiple-day testing; and special test and answer-sheet formats.
The Neuropsychological Evaluation
Obtaining any of these accommodations requires a neuropsychological evaluation, which typically involves three parts: clinical interview, testing, and feedback.

  • The clinical interview is used to obtain background information from the student and family, providing me with a context for any cognitive or behavioral challenges the student might be experiencing.
  • Standardized tests are then used to further assess how the student is performing cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally.
  • I then utilize the clinical interview and test results to provide official recommendations for testing accommodations, as well as recommendations for the family and the student's school. All of this is communicated during an in-person feedback session.

The evaluation occurs across several meetings and includes 8-10 hours face-to-face with the student. Click here to learn more about the details of a neuropsychological assessment.
What symptoms suggest an assessment?
Children and teens may be having difficulties such as:
  • not being able to pay attention in school
  • not being able to finish tests in the given time
  • having trouble communicating with family members, teachers, and/or friends
  • struggling with family and other close relationships
  • not getting good grades
  • not living up to their full potential

A neuropsychological assessment looks at any or all of these potential concerns and their root causes. Even if your primary aim is securing extended time on standardized testing, your child's neuropsychological evaluation will include information that will help you to better understand and support them in all he or she does.

Fees and Hours
My fee is $325 per hour; I also offer a sliding scale as appropriate. A full neuropsychological evaluation typically encompasses 15-21 hours including the clinical interview, testing, scoring, report writing, and family and school meetings.

Although I do not accept insurance directly, families can usually be reimbursed for much of the cost by their insurance company. Although I can't guarantee reimbursement, I will assist you with your insurance reimbursement claim forms.
